How to check and/or adjust display settings in "Windows XP":
Locate the start button in the lower left corner of the desktop display screen. Left click
the start button. Then, move the mouse cursor to the words "Control Panel"

Left click on the words "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel.
Move the mouse cursor onto the icon named "Display".
Left click the icon named "Display" to show the Display Properties window.
Then left click the "Settings" tab to display the settings window.
Then left click the "Settings" tab to display the settings window.
Look at the box named "Screen resolution". If the text inside the box is not "1280 by
1024 pixels", place the mouse cursor on the slider, press and hold the left click button
and drag the slider to one side or another until the text reads "1280 by 1024 pixels".
